Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name. Worship the lord in the splendor of his holiness- PS 29:2

I suppose I could spend time theorizing how it is that someone can lift up their hands, close their eyes sing or just look up to to an empty space and seem not to acknowledge their environment but that’s not the point. I spent a lot of time in my life looking at people and tried to figure out how they reacted to a praise/ worship song or even their reaction to situations. I used to wonder how someone can still praise and worship God in the worst of circumstances. I thought a lot about the point at which people would get to and just say; ‘ Holy, Holy, Holy is your name, ‘ and tear up. I honestly wished I experienced such. I wanted to be lost in adoring and praising the Lord just like the lady who led worship in my church or better off, kneel with nothing to say, lost of words and just cry to my Lord just like what I saw on TV. I adored it. There was a time I thought I got to that point. I thought , I , a whirlwind of wasted things, was finally riding this tantrum to God, for some sort of fixation of my withered self but I was wrong. I did cry and lift my hands but left that building, the church, feeling like the same withered person that came to that building that morning. No weathering of sorrow nor offloading of any sort had taken place. This made me think a lot and question  the essence of worship and how I can maybe attain it. I had to search and look for this feeling. I will not lie to you that after months and maybe years of searching and reading I found it. I did not. On the contrary I found something better that later on led me  to that feeling. ( Let me give you a second to just prepare you to embark with me on this journey.)

Do you want to know what I found, I found the greatest gift. Something that no one had ever gifted me before. Something that brought about a great change in my life. Something that in addition to the peace and joy added the feeling of contentment and light into my life. This great thing that I found was God. I found salvation. And from this I got the feeling that I was looking for. maybe I’m loosing you here.

Let me explain this to you. This is what I mean when I say I had to find God so that I could find what I had been looking for all this while. I understood God. I understood God’s true nature. I understood God’s sovereign nature.

{Isaiah 66: 1- 2}

Sovereign means a supreme ruler, possessing ultimate power. He is the ultimate source of authority, power and everything that exists [verse 2]. God is self- existent; He reigns over the the earth and heavens {1 Chronicles 16: 31 & Psalms 47: 8}. In Isaiah’s vision of the Lord {Isaiah 6}, he describes the majesty of God, his revealed glory and holiness, the seraphim cover themselves at His presence proclaiming “Holy holy is the Lord of host”. This aspect of God being revealed to us from the holy scriptures calls us to submission to Him as our king and a father as well. In his sovereignty, He chose us to himself and for himself when we were fallen for, he cannot dwell in sin. He is HOLY. He rules in love and desires the best for us {Romans 8; 28}.

With this knowledge, I now understood who I owed everything to. With this, I gained genuine ardent love towards God. The kind of love that assures and I had never felt before. The kind of love that made me unknowingly and intentionally lift up my hands, close my eyes and just give all I had to him. What’s more interesting was that, I not only was I able to learn this but also I got to understand that worship is a lifestyle. I got to learn that worship was not a one day event or a during service thing but a lifestyle that I had to choose. Something that I had to incorporate on my daily life. Not a routine but as a way to offer my body as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God in view of His mercy. And this is a spiritual act of worship ( Romans 12:1)

Now, I was no longer affiliated with the kingdom. I was part of the kingdom.

Now Job’s worship to God after getting more bad news after the other made more sense. The upraising of hands now made sense. Even when it is still dark and the sun is not up for us. It all now made perfect sense. In all times, in all seasons and in all all days, I now understood that, worship and praise belonged only to God.

So now, brothers and sisters let us praise and worship God. We will never comprehend the vast expanses of the earth but what we have is the knowledge of who he is. He alone is lord. He made the heavens, even the highest heavens and all their starry host, the earth and all that is in it, the seas and all that is them. He gives life to everything and the multitudes of heaven worship Him ( Neh.9:6). Come let us now down in worship . Let us kneel before the lord our maker( ps.96:5 ). Tell of his wonders, declare of his splendor all day. While you’re still living, dedicate all you have to him. All that you do, do it for his name. For the grave cannot give Him, death cannot sing his praises.

And lastly, brethren, you cannot attain this or do this without knowing Him. Battered and withered, I come to him first. With the praise and glory that he truly deserves. And now, I am glad to admit this, I Got to give all to him in all all I did, and got to too experience him best because I Got to him first. It sure is the best gift that I have ever received. Shalom.
